Is he strong? Listen Bud; he's got radioactive blood...

So Spider-Man is my favorite super-hero of all time. What better way to end 2007 than with a wallcrawling webslinger hanging upside down like some kind of red and blue badasss? I'll tell you what better way; NO better way, thats what better way.

Its late, I'm sorry.

Happy New Year!

Heroes...

FACTOID! Before starring as Hiro in Heroes, Heroes star Masi Oka (Hiro) worked at ILM on the visual effects for such films as Star Wars Episodes 1,2 and 3, Hulk, and Pirates Of The Carribean: Dead Man's Chest.
When I told this factoid to my friends as we sat down to watch the finale of Heroes season 1, I was ridiculed and called a nerd for knowing that.
They were correct.

Bex and the snowflake.

Something to celebrate this most joyous of seasons and to especially celebrate the birth of someone very important. Santa.

For Bex.

Road Safety Dance.

This was done for the 'Bobby Club' magazine, given to school children by the Police, its full of puzzles and bits of information, safety tips and all that stuff. Not sure which version will be used in the end, most likely the 'colouring in' version on the left although I like the negative one, goddamn pigs...(joke)

FRAK!

This is a collaboration between me and fellow Swindon Sequential Illustration Badassss Ryan Bayliss ( http://www.ryanbayliss.co.uk/ ) that came about because we both love sexy robots that want to enslave the last remenants of humanity in the galaxy, and also sexy spaceship pilots that want to stop the previously mentioned evil sexy robots.
Starbuck by me, Cylon Six by Ryan.

The cover to my summer college project. A collection of sketches based on photos taken at this year's Reading Festival (pictures taken by my brother David. SHOUT OUT!). The girl on the cover is Lauren Soderberg (DOUBLE SHOUT OUT!)

Nice day to start again...

The fifth and sixth character designs for my comic. These characters have just got engaged at the start of the story and the book climaxes at their reception. Even though they aren't the main characters I'm still trying and give them a few good lines...

Wendy? You got a big surprise coming to you. You're not going anywhere...

Took about a hour to draw, ink and colour. One of my favorite bits of the film; Jack Nicholson getting frozen up in the hedge maze at the end looking all the way mental.

More trading card character designs (no free bubblegum though...)

More characters from my graphic novel....also writing a graphic novel is hard.

"Got...got...need..."

These are some character designs for a graphic novel I'm trying to write at the moment. For my own enjoyment (and yours) I've made them look like old 'Garbage Pail Kids' style sticker cards.
REMEMBER THE 80'S????

She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly...

One of the main characters from a comic I'm drawing at the moment. I like the colouring on this. Yes I do.

Ya'll don't know what it's like, being male, middle class and white...

Ben Folds is amazing so this got drawn. Also its the back cover to the comic I'm doing at the moment; an adaptation of the Ben Folds Five song "Brick".

Hammy Sagar sez do all the Rock!

Another rock gig poster for The Furnace in Swindon that wasn't used in the end. It turned out pretty good though so no harm no foul.

If it bleeds...we can kill it.

'So you cooked up a story and dropped the six of us in the meat grinder...What happened to you Dillon? You used to be someone I could trust.'

GUNS, EXPLOSIONS, JUNGLES, BLOOD, PECTORAL MUSCLES, ALIENS WITH GENITALIA WHERE THEIR MOUTHS ARE, SHOUTING, THE CABINET MINISTER, THE WHOLE BUSINESS.

I'm pretty happy with it this. Big pat on the back for James! Pat Pat Pat.

This is dedicated to all those Predator enthusiasts (or Preduthiasts) out there in TV land....

'Cause I wanna be Anarchy...

'Milling Witless' is an anthology of comic stories all based around the theme of transgression. The stories are written and drawn by the illustration students of Swindon College (myself included) and the book is printed by Steve Causer and the good people at Warpton Creative.

ALSO THE BOOK IS DIRTY! DIRTY AND WRONG!

Ok, let me explain. The book was meant to be a project displaying the talents of Swindon College's illustration students, however news reached us that the higher powers at Swindon College had deemed the book offensive (due to filthy, course language, an implied castration and in one instance, an image of an old man is just his pants) and so the students had to remove any mention of the college from the book, which is a little bit of an over reaction but hey, wadaya gonna do? The book is still set to be sent out to publishers around the world and hopefully to a couple of comic shops so if you see it, maybe you should pick it up as it may contain the first printed work of some kind of future genius.

There's an air of love and of happiness and this is the Fresh Prince's new definition of summer madness...

This is the cover to the programme for the Wanborough Summer Show (18th August) and for all you daredevil dog enthusiasts I can confirm that this summer show will feature some dogs jumping through fire. I know this because on the website there is a picture of a dog and that dog is jumping through some fire.
BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!

Of Dogs and Dogging...

This is a story set in the druid-heavy village of Avebury (yet no magical powers on display in the story. A waste). Fans of the Norse language will notice the title "Mjohund" is Norse of course for Great Dane. Thanks Wikipedia!

The Pearl And The Indian Ocean...

A visual link between two things: a pearl and the Indian Ocean.

With some poo jokes in between.

He always wanted to be special... but he never expected this!

After the serious subject matter of the last post I thought I would stay on a similarly sombre path. This image depicts a teenager's battle with the horrifying realities of werewolfism (its a condition).

This was a picture I did for my brother David as a birthday present. It's the kind of high quality gift you can expect to recieve if you know me. GET IN LINE PEOPLE OF EARTH!

Transgression...

This story is going to be printed in an anthology comic book alongside other illustration students from Swindon College. When I had the idea for the story I thought it was just an urban legend I'd heard in high school but apparently this happens from time to time.

Scary stuff.

Oasis...

A recent piece of work from my college course. This was all about taking a real location as reference to set a story in. I used the Oasis leisure centre across the road from the college.

Rock!

A flyer for a Swindon club called The Furnace. This was done under the umbrella of ZedIsDead Design, the design company set up by my housemates, Joe and Chris. This is my first attempt at a gig poster so I hope it encapsulates the indie-rock it's promoting...

Here Come The Fuzz...

So this is my latest bit of art, finished literally minutes ago. When I'm not hard at work at art college I like to take time out and relax with my hobby of drawing stuff. This is what I like to do most, film poster esq drawings of my favorite films. I'm a massive fan of Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost and actually felt a bit guilty when I realised that I liked Hot Fuzz even more than Shaun Of The Dead. Then I remembered that the fact that their second film was even better than their first was a good thing. Then I also remembered I was a dork for putting that much thought into it and beat myself up. I learnt a valuable lesson that day.

I'm Really happy with the colouring but I wish the faces came out a bit better. Maybe when I do an drawing of their next film it will be an improvement on this one eh?

(I am a massive dork)

Your regular run-of-the-mill welcome...

Hello! Welcome to my blog-site-website-page-site. My name is James, I'm 25 and when I grow up I'd like to be a graphic novelist (yes that is a posh word for someone who does comics, well done for noticing). I'll be posting all my artwork on this page, both my college work (I'm a sequential illustration student) and any pictures I produce during what I like to call 'James's pencil funtimes'.

If you enjoy anything you see on this blog leave me a comment, or if you are a rich sultan needing my bank account details to deposit large ammounts of totally real money so it won't fall into the hands of evil doers let me know about that too.

So yeah, have fun, get smart.

James.
