I DONE A COMIC!

My first self-published comic "Now We Are Running" will make its debut on Saturday the 14th of May at the Bristol International Comic and Small Press Expo . I've got a table at the con along with fellow Bristol artist extraordinaries Katie Green, Jess Bradley, John Paul Bove and Rhys Reed so come along and say hello.

Don Draper (aka Dick Whitman) from Mad Men. Don is a great character because he's still a sympathetic and likeable person despite all the stuff he gets up to. Props to John Hamm.

In a tv show full of brilliant well written characters, Peggy is one of my favorites because she feels like a real, three dimensional person. Ironic considering I totally resemble, and live my life like Don Draper...

To The Rescue Strikes Back!

My contribution to issue 104 of Storm Force, the RNLI lifeboat magazine for children. This issue I got the chance to move from one to two pages for the comic story and to continue my RNLI vehicle spreads. My favorite pieces of artwork for the mag yet.

One of my favorite films of all time. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright are always a big slice of fried gold inspiration for me so I gone done this.

Here is the cover to "Now we are running...", my new comic book. A collection of pop-culture spoofs n' goofs with a little violence and bad language thrown in because I think it's big and clever.

Yo Teach!

I'm currently teaching classes in comic book art and illustration for the ICIA at Bath University. Its a new experience for me but pretty exciting. If I'm going to yakyakyak about anything in front of people it might as well be comics and drawings and that. So far my lectures have gone well, a little dry mouth and the odd brain fart but nothing too bad. Although I seem to be unintentionally channelling Alan Partridge, which IS a worry.

As a quick first lesson exercise I got my students to look at the "American Elf" diary comics of James Kochalka and see if they could take a tiny moment from their recent lives and turn it into a journal comic. Above are the two example I did, recent moments from the hectic roller coaster ride I call JAMES.

Is he a pig? He sure eats like one.

I get choked up at the end of E.T, I'm not ashamed to admit. But I've never started crying on the theme park ride, when you go to his home and see all the other E.Ts and help Botanicus heal the Green Planet...and anyone who says I did is a liar...

Troy and Abed in the morrrrning!

Troy and Abed from Community. If you don't watch it then get watching it, because its probably the smartest comedy on tv at the moment. Sure, none of the characters are played by millionaire coke addicts who slap porn stars (and were in Hot Shots part deux) but don't hold that against it. I'm going to pay tribute to all the other characters soon but I wanted to start with T-Bone and Cool Abed. UPDATE! Check out my picture of the whole Community cast here!
