New portfolio website!

My new website is LIVE! This is the place to check out my artwork portfolio and comic samples. I'll still be updating this blog with everything I do but the site is going to be the Central Hub (I'm the best) of all my work.

Self Fartrait.

New avatar picture. Fact: The pencil I use to work with is actually larger than the one shown. By five centimetres.

Be careful of the Murdock boys. They've got the devil in them.

Happy Daredevil-Day everyone! I can't wait to watch the new season, it looks like its going to be amazing. This picture of The Devil of Hell's Kitchen was expertly coloured by the Kingpin of the graphics tablet, John-Paul Bove, and will be available as a mini-print on his table at a con near you soon!

The Making of "Donuts R My Life"...

Here are some process pics from my Donut Cafe picture I posted last week:

First, my reproduction of "Tennis Is My Life" Alf, which is an important factor to visualise and also a good coda to live by.

Second is the rough thumbnail. I drew this about 4 inches high, I always get a better composition if I start small and blow it up to work from.

Next is the actual artwork, mid-way through inking. Inking tends to be my favourite part of the whole job, I treat the page like a little zen garden and work through it carefully, until I muck something up and curse myself for my foolhardy pursuit of a faultless piece of artwork. I am nature's fool.

Finally the finished picture. The colours took a while because of the little details n' donuts but I'm really happy with the end result. Hopefully I'll do more silly picture like this soon.

Donuts R My Life.

There's a story behind this silly nonsense. Back in the extreme 90's I had a small Alf (Alien Life Form) toy, holding a tennis racket and wearing a red waistcoat, emblazoned with the legend "Tennis Is My Life". Whether or not tennis was that important to Alf is a discussion for another day, but the phrase always made me laugh and I kept it snug in my back pocket to use later in the perfect context.

That context obviously is a tree frog that runs a small donut cafe (obviously).

Storm Force!

The RNLI have just published issue 124 of Storm Force, the 25th issue that I've worked on! I've been drawing comics and games for the magazine since 2009 and it's one of the most rewarding parts of my job. I'm very grateful to Jon & Steve for giving so many amazing things to draw. This issue featured a "Where's Stormy Stan?" spread that almost melted my brain but came out great.

I'm already hard at work on issue 125. Fingers crossed that I'll be blogging about my 50th issue of Storm Force on the internet of the future!
