Now we are running...

Here is the cover to "Now we are running...", my new comic book. A collection of pop-culture spoofs n' goofs with a little violence and bad language thrown in because I think it's big and clever.

Learn! The stories behind some of Spielberg's greatest movies. Discover! The legend of the Vangrooover brothers, three body-building triplets from a German muscle-family. Enjoy! The sensuous feeling of silky paper all over your soft soft hands...

The book will be available at this year's Bristol International Comic and Small Press Expo on the 14th-15th of May, then afterwards available via my blog. My hope is that you will purchase it and upon looking at the pages, do some kind of laugh. Thanks!

Yo Teach!

I'm currently teaching classes in comic book art and illustration for the ICIA at Bath University. Its a new experience for me but pretty exciting. If I'm going to yakyakyak about anything in front of people it might as well be comics and drawings and that. So far my lectures have gone well, a little dry mouth and the odd brain fart but nothing too bad. Although I seem to be unintentionally channelling Alan Partridge, which IS a worry.

As a quick first lesson exercise I got my students to look at the "American Elf" diary comics of James Kochalka and see if they could take a tiny moment from their recent lives and turn it into a journal comic. Above are the two example I did, recent moments from the hectic roller coaster ride I call JAMES.

Is he a pig? He sure eats like one.

I get choked up at the end of E.T, I'm not ashamed to admit. But I've never started crying on the theme park ride, when you go to his home and see all the other E.Ts and help Botanicus heal the Green Planet...and anyone who says I did is a liar...

I was so unpopular in high school, the crossing guards used to lure me into traffic!

Troy and Abed in the morrrrning!

Troy and Abed from Community. If you don't watch it then get watching it, because its probably the smartest comedy on tv at the moment. Sure, none of the characters are played by millionaire coke addicts who slap porn stars (and were in Hot Shots part deux) but don't hold that against it. I'm going to pay tribute to all the other characters soon but I wanted to start with T-Bone and Cool Abed. UPDATE! Check out my picture of the whole Community cast here!

Holy Shirt!

More Threadless designs ( "Crush Your Paperwork" & "Comix R 4 Dorks!" ). Always fun to do, even if I don't get great scores every time (tiny violin for James). Holding off on submitting any more designs until I get that killer idea that'll blow your mind like a rocket shaped like a t-shirt.

Hire The Barman.

Storyboard artwork for Hire The Barman (London Cocktail Barman Hire).

This was a cool project to do. The most fun part though was posing as a Tom Cruise style cocktail barman for reference photos. I make a great, fake martini!

Check out the full artwork on the site here.

Details for the workshops can be found here!

The futher adventures of To The Rescue!

More artwork from a recent issue of Storm Force, the Royal National Lifeboat Institute magazine. Its always a lot of fun to do and recently I've been drawing centre spread action shots of the various boats the RNLI use too.

(Pssst! The children being saved in the comic are dressed like the kids from South Park. I am easily amused.)
